Democratic
leadership in general can be seen in the implementation of democratic
politics, where this leadership puts the people first, in accordance
with the slogan "From the people, by the people, and for the people",
where every goal and decision taken is for the benefit of the people. As applied by Indonesia.
In the concept of democratic leadership, subordinates (subordinates) have an important role and are involved in every decision. Each subordinate is given tasks from superiors according to their respective abilities or expertise. Creativity, honesty, effort, and responsibility, are very clearly visible through this one leadership style.
Communication that exists from this leadership style is two-way, where each subordinate can provide input if needed. The figure of a leader with a democratic leadership style will be respected by subordinates, even favored.
According to sources taken from Binus.ac.id , democratic leadership has the following characteristics:
- The leadership authority is not absolute (In making decisions, it can be influenced by subordinates in the form of input during deliberation).
- Decisions are made jointly between leaders and subordinates (In making and making decisions, first deliberation between superiors and subordinates is carried out until an agreement is reached).
- Communication between leaders and subordinates is going well (In communicating, it is not hindered by fear, shame, etc. caused by the position).
- The existence of freedom of expression (Subordinates have the right to express their opinions freely in accordance with democratic principles).
- The leader distributes authority to his subordinates (Not all duties and responsibilities must be carried out by a leader, but may be distributed to subordinates as long as they are within reasonable limits).
