Management and Leadership

Every management needs a leader and leadership. Without it, the organization and management becomes chaotic and the goals will not be achieved. Management is the essence of administration, while leadership is the essence of management. Many definitions of management that have been put forward by experts include: 

1. Management is a process or framework, which involves the guidance or direction of a group of people towards organizational goals or real purposes. 

 

2. Management is the process of leading and launching the work of people who are formally organized as a group to strengthen the desired goals. According to Imam Munawir , there are 3 (three) basic skills needed for a leader, namely: 

a. Sufficient technical skills to carry out the effort rather than the specific tasks for which they are responsible ( technical skills ).

b. Human skills that are sufficient in working with each other to create effective group harmony and which are able to foster cooperation among the subordinate members he leads ( human skills ).

c. The ability to explore the situation is sufficient to find the relationship between the various factors involved in the atmosphere, which can provide guidance to him in taking the steps in question, so as to achieve maximum results for the organization as a whole ( conceptual skills ).

 Thus, it is clear that management functions or activities ( planing, organizing, actuacting, controlling ) are directly or indirectly related to the human element. Planning in management is a human creation, organizing in addition to regulating other elements also always involves the human element, actuating is the process of moving people into an organization, while controlling is held so that the implementation of management can always improve the results of its work.
