Islamic Leadership Principles

The leader is at the forefront when he leads the command and sets an example. The leader is also in the middle as he listens to the voices of his community and shares what his community is going through. Sometimes leaders are behind when the community needs support and encouragement. Meaning the leader is a versatile being. For that, the principles that form the basis of a leader's character are needed in order to be able to carry the leadership in the direction expected by all parties. Among other things

a. Principle of Worship
A leader who is in fact a creature of His creation, then it should be in all his deeds based on the main purpose of sincerely seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT. As He said: " And I did not create the Jinn and Mankind except to serve Me " (Qs Adz Dzaariyat: 56), and also in another verse, " And you shall worship Allah alone and do not associate anything with Him. whatever, and do good to both parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, near neighbors, distant neighbors, colleagues, homeless travelers and also my servants that you have ". (Qs An Nisa ': 36).

b. Principle of Trust
A leader who professes faith and Islam, must carry out the 2 types of trust imposed on him. The first trust comes from Allah SWT and His Messenger. That is the obligation to carry out all the commands of Allah SWT and His Messenger, and stay away from all the prohibitions and prohibitions of His Messenger. Execute the order and stay away from the prohibition, covering all areas, both personal and general. Both those who are in direct contact with Allah SWT (hablum minallahi) which contains ritual aspects, as well as those who are related to fellow human beings (hablum minannasi) which contains social aspects.
The second trust is that of human origin. This trust covers various matters concerning the desires of daily human life, both in personal affairs, as well as joint affairs. Every individual who receives a trust from human beings for a leader gets the burden of trust to manage, organize, maintain and carry out that obligation properly and correctly. As Allah SWT says, " O you who believe, do not betray Allah and His Messenger and do not betray the trusts entrusted to you while you know (the consequences) " (Qs. Al-Anfaal: 27-28), and also other verses with the same meaning.

c. Principles of Science / Professionalism
The principle of knowledge means that all the work must be done based on knowledge, as Allah says: " And do not follow anything of which you have no knowledge " (Qs Al Israa ': 36). In addition, there are many verses in the Qur'an that illustrate the importance of knowledge, including the verse that first came down to command for ikra '(reading).
Prophet Muhammad SAW in one of the hadiths that we have heard very often say that, " If a matter is handed over to someone who is not an expert (does not have the capacity to carry it), then wait for the time of its destruction "(HR Bukhari chapter on Science). And also Imam Shafi'i who is one of the great scholars of Islam said that" whoever wants the world then let it be with knowledge, whoever desires the hereafter then let it be with knowledge, and whoever desires both then let it be with knowledge. "(Al-Majmu 'Imam An-Nawawi).

D. The Principle of Justice of
Allah SWT is the Most Just and very much loves justice, it can be seen with the many commands to do justice in the Qur'an. Some of them are:" O you who believe, be you the true enforcers of justice, be witnesses for God even against yourself or your parents and relatives. If he is rich or poor, then God knows best. So do not follow lust because you want to deviate from the truth. And if you turn away or refuse to bear witness, then surely Allah is Aware of what you do . "(An Nisaa: 135), and also" Say: My Lord commands justice. And: Straighten your face in every prayer and worship Allah with sincere obedience to Him. As He created you in the beginning "(Al A'raaf: 29).

e. Principles of Work Ethics /
Islamic Discipline is a religion that teaches hard work and effort in addition to praying to get what is desired. Islam never teaches to just hope and hold hands. As said by Allah SWT that, " that is because indeed Allah will never change a favor that He has bestowed on a people, until the people change what is in themselves, and indeed Allah is All-Hearing the All -Knowing "(Qs Al Anfaal: 53).
In the verse: " When the prayers have been performed, then scatter yourselves on the earth, and seek the bounty of Allah and remember Allah as much as possible so that you may prosper "(QS Al Jumu'ah: 10), Allah SWT commands people to work immediately after worship and not just surrender on the grounds of asceticism or tawakkal. It is true that Allah SWT has said: " And seek what Allah has bestowed on you from the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of the worldly… " (Qs Al Qashash: 77)

f. Principle of Akhlaqul Qarimah
As a believer, we should emulate Rasulullah SAW in all aspects of life, especially when it comes to moral issues. Everyone who knows him, whether friend or foe will surely praise his moral excellence and personality. Even 'A'ishah his wife when asked about the morals of the Prophet, said that like the Qur'an. Allah SWT himself in one of the verses praised him by saying: " And indeed you are truly virtuous " (Qs Al Qalam: 4).
Allah SWT has also conveyed to human beings when they want to obtain good in this world and the hereafter to emulate and emulate his morals, as implied in the following verse, " Indeed, there has been in the Messenger of Allah a good example for you and for those who hope in Allah and the Last Day and he mentions Allah a lot "(QS Al Ahzaab: 21).
